The build
When a supplier quietly swaps an ingredient (sunflower oil for peanut oil), the allergen risk can reach the shelf before anyone notices, and catching it by hand runs to hundreds of hours of checking across a compliance team every week. Vigil puts agents on the scene instead: they read every supplier message the instant it lands, detect the allergen or dietary change, update the webshop, log it, and alert the team, continuously, without tiring. The only place a human enters the loop is the final approval: one deliberate touch on a food-safety call. Remove even that, and Vigil runs entirely on its own. A live agent pipeline: real tools, structured detection, a full audit trail. Built for a major UK grocery retailer, it took first place at the AI Agent Lab London hackathon, hosted by Devoteam and Google Cloud.
The outcome
Doubled campaign delivery speed week-to-week. System handles 3x the volume the team used to manually process. Hundreds of hours of manual checking a week collapse to a single human decision (approval), with agents doing everything on either side of it. Supervised today by design; fully autonomous the moment you want it. This is what “we build systems that do the work” actually looks like.
